Import Guide

Bring your repertoire with you.

One CSV file fills the whole app — repertoire, musicians, jams and gigs. Five steps, and the only typing is your own song list. Importing never deletes anything, and running the same file twice never creates duplicates, so there is no way to get this wrong that can't be re-run.

Download the template

In the app: Repertoire tab → the share icon (top left) → Download Template. Send it wherever your spreadsheet lives — AirDrop it to your computer, save it to Files, or email it to yourself.

Already have your songs in a spreadsheet? You can skip the template and shape your own file instead — keep the same header row, and step 3 tells you which columns matter.

Open it and read the top

Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets all open CSV files. The template starts with a block of lines beginning # — those are instructions, and the importer ignores them, so keep or delete them as you like. Below the instructions sit the header row (leave it as it is) and one filled example of each row type. Replace the examples with your own rows.

Every row starts with a Type — song, musician, jam or gig — that says what the rest of the row means. Most columns stay blank on any given row; that's normal.

Fill in your rows — what each type needs

Gold columns are required; the rest are optional. Blank cells are simply left out — they never erase anything already in the app.

Status is Ready, In Progress or Want to Learn — blank counts as Ready. Key is your performance key, written however you say it (Bb, C‑, Gm). A blank Genre shows as "jazz standard". Year is a plain number.

musician — one row per person in your directory

Write the Instrument however you like — "keys" and "piano" count as the same instrument, and your wording is what shows on their card. Instagram works with or without the @.

jam — one row per song you played that night

Rows sharing the same date and venue count as one jam night. Write Musicians as Dana Reyes (piano), Lee Park (bass) — anyone listed with an instrument joins your Musicians directory automatically, and any song not yet in your repertoire files itself into In Progress with its songbook credits. Your jam log builds your library for you.

gig — one row per song in the running order

Rows sharing the same Date + Venue + Gig become one gig, and Set numbers its sets — blank means set 1. Two rows with Set 1 and three with Set 2 rebuild a two-set gig, in order. Musicians and Notes only need to appear on one of the gig's rows. A gig row with no Title saves the gig itself, empty and ready for songs later.

Dates are best written YYYY-MM-DD (2026-08-19). American-style 8/19/2026 and 2026/08/19 are accepted too.

Save it as a CSV

  • Numbers: File → Export To → CSV
  • Excel: File → Save As → CSV UTF‑8
  • Google Sheets: File → Download → Comma‑separated values

Then get the file somewhere your iPhone or iPad can reach it — AirDrop, iCloud Drive, or any folder the Files app can see.

Import it

Back in the app: Repertoire → share icon → Choose CSV File, and pick your file. A confirmation tells you exactly what happened — how many songs, musicians, jams and gigs were added, what was merged with entries already on file, and whether any rows were skipped.

Safe to run again. Songs and musicians already in the app are matched by name and merged — a blank cell in your file never erases what's there — and jams or gig songs already logged are skipped, not duplicated. Fixed a typo? Just edit the file and import it again.

If something looks off

  • "Nothing to import" usually means the header row was removed or renamed. Column order doesn't matter, but the names do.
  • "…rows skipped" points at rows missing what they need: a song or jam row without a Title, a jam or gig row without a readable Date, or a Type that isn't song, musician, jam or gig.
  • Commas and quotes in titles or notes are fine — your spreadsheet handles the wrapping when it saves the CSV.
